The Visibility Project is a series of paintings that center black female breast cancer survivors whose chests were radically transformed after surgical treatment. 1 in 8 US women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during the course of their lifetime. According to the American Cancer Society, ‘black women are more likely to die from breast cancer than women of any other racial or ethnic group’ yet we are excluded and deemed invisible in paintings. I want to change that.
